Charlie Davies scored twice for Sochaux against Bordeaux last season.
There has been a lot happening for Americans this weekend, from playing time to transfer news. Here’s a few things of note:
Charlie Davies is supposed to make the squad for Sochaux’s important game against Bordeaux Sunday. This is Charlie’s first full-time game back since his accident, and it will be great to see him suit up again. FSC will be broadcasting the game in the US.
Edson Buddle is on trial at Birmingham City for two weeks. Manager Alex Mcleish said the Premier League is interested in the LA Galaxy striker, but admitted it would cost ‘an arm and a leg’ to bring him to Birmingham. If he can get playing time, I think this would be a great move for Buddle, and would keep him especially dangerous for the USMNT.
Speaking of transfers, Greg Seitzer from MLS.com does a pretty good job or summarizing the transfer situation of many Americans this January, which you can read here.
A number of Americans saw action today, most notably Ricardo Clark, who played 90 minutes in Eintracht Frankfurt’s surprise 1-0 win over Borussi Dortmund. Here’s who played today:
- Stuart Holden (Bolton v Sunderland) – Played 90 minutes
- Jonathan Spector (West Ham v Blackburn) – Played 57 minutes
- Jozy Altidore (Villarreal v Mallorca) – Played 6 minutes
- Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund) – Played 90 minutes
- Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96 v Nurnberg) – Played 90 minutes, scored and own goal, and received a yellow card
Yesterday Michael Bradley played 90 minutes for Borussia Monchengladbach, and tomorrow Sacha Kljestan and Charlie Davies will play for Anderlecht and Sochaux. We’ll keep you posted via Twitter if Davies’ gets playing time tomorrow, which would be great to see.
